Featured Comedian Q&A: Jen Kirkman
Article by Fabulous Arizona

Comedian Jen Kirkman is performing May 18-19 at Stand Up, Scottsdale! Comedy Club. Check out Fab AZ’s exclusive interview with Jen Kirkman:

jen-kirkman

Q: Where are you from?
A: Boston, Massachusetts

Q: How long have you been doing comedy?
A: Been doing stand-up for 15 years. But I don’t count the first three years because I was doing really dumb material about Prozac and pretending to be angry.

Q: How was your first gig? Was it immediately gratifying, or did you bomb at first?
A: The secret to stand-up comedy is that everyone does well on their first gig – otherwise who the hell would get up there and do it a second time? My first gig was great. It was in a room at the back of a bar and it was filled with young twenty-something people and I told a really honest story about how I lied about losing my virginity in high school.

Q: What can comedy goers expect from you at Stand-Up, Scottsdale! this weekend?
A: They can expect me being funny and talking about things that they’re not allowed to talk about at their jobs.

Q: What is the source of inspiration for your comedy?
A: My life! Whether it’s my parents, my divorce or some weirdo that sits next to me on a plane.

Q: How do you keep yourself busy while on tour/traveling/performing?
A: I knock myself out on planes by taking Klonopin and honestly I’m never in a city long enough to do anything. Right now I’m writing a book that’s due in a month so I’ll be busy pulling my hair out writing that before and after my gigs.

Q: What has been your memorable comedy milestones so far?
A: Getting to perform all over the country (and outside the country) after the success of being on Chelsea Lately has been great and getting to do stand-up on TV like on the E! Comedians of Chelsea Lately special as well as on Conan.

Q: If you could receive a sext from one politician, one athlete, and one movie star, who would they be?
A: BILL CLINTON!!!!- I’ll pass on the athlete thing. I have never been attracted to sporty guys – but maybe if I had a time machine I’d want a sext from 2004′s Johnny Damon when he was on the Red Sox but then he went to the Yankees so my legs are forever closed to him, and one movie star, ROBERT DOWNEY JR, even the Robert Downey Jr that was on drugs and in jail. Any incarnation of him would be fine.

Q: If you could buy one thing for everybody in the country, what would it be?
A: I’d buy everyone a television so that no more snotty people come up to me and say things like, “Oh. I don’t own a television.”

Q: What’s an interesting fact that people wouldn’t know about you?
A: I am a classically trained ballet dancer – I can tap dance too and play piano. I haven’t done any of them in years so I suck now but in some alternate universe I’m really tearing it up at Carnegie Hall.

Q: Where can people find more information about you? Anything coming up we should know about?
A: People can hit up my website jenkirkman.com or check me out on Twitter at twitter.com/jenkirkman. I’m on Chelsea Lately a few times a month on round table so I definitely have an appearance on there coming up!

See Jen Kirkman at Stand Up, Scottsdale! Comedy Club May 18-19.

Coming October 14 & 15

Lisa Landry came up through the famed New York City comedy circuit to become an audience favorite at clubs, colleges and theaters across the country.
Landry has appeared on CBS’s “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” & “The Bonnie Hunt Show” on NBC. She starred in her own half hour Special, “Comedy Central Presents Lisa Landry.” And a nationwide vote catapulted her special to third place out of 100 top comedians in Comedy Central’s annual “Standup Showdown.” She’s the first woman to ever place in the top three.

Landry’s CD Put Your Keys in the Key Bowl was selected by iTunes as one of the “Top 10 Best Comedy CDs” of 2008. She is one of a handful of comedians chosen by TBS for their “We Know Funny” series of stand-up style commercials. She’s also appeared on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend” and co-starred on NBC’s “Law and Order: SVU.”
The Louisiana native was featured on “Brett Butler’s Southern Belles of Comedy” DVD. She did commentary for E!’s “Forbes Top 100 Celebrities” and CMT’s “20 Greatest Redneck Moments,” where Landry was chosen as a “Top Pick” by TV Guide. Her guest appearances include Fox’s “Morning Show with Mike and Juliet,” the “Bob and Tom Show,” Fox’s “Redeye” and the “Hollyweird” segment on MSNBC’s “Scarborough Country.” For four years, Landry was a comedy writer for US Weekly Magazine. Punchline Magazine describes Landry best: “She’s an incredibly skilled comedian, a controlling presence onstage and a master of pacing and delivery.”

As the star of MTV’s hit show “Disaster Date” K-von’s humor has made an international impact. This hilarious hidden-camera show displays his many talents as each of his characters prove funnier and more outrageous than the last. Additionally, after a two-year standup comedy tour and an appearance on SHOWTIME, K-von is ready to unleash even more of his ‘Hip Pop Culture’ brand of comedy both on-screen as well as in comedy clubs. Instead of going to Law School or pursuing the normal “good Persian son” path to medical school, K-von opted to follow his first love, making people laugh! He left the pursuit of Dentistry to his younger brother…
